NFL owners vote to add 17th game to schedule

The NFL owners voted in favor of adding a 17th game to the schedule starting this upcoming season. The league made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon.

The Chiefs will host the Packers for their extra game. That was determined because Kansas City and Green Bay are in opposite conference. The two teams also both finished first in their respective divisions.

This will not necessarily be the final game of the season. The NFL is expected to announce the full schedule in May.

The NFL also announced teams will only play three preseason games instead of four.

Teams will still get one bye week during the regular season.

The 2021 season is set to begin on Thursday, Sept. 9. Super Bowl LVI is scheduled to be played on Feb. 13, 2022 in Los Angeles at SoFi Stadium.
