Thousands of protesters take to the streets in downtown Columbia Sunday

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Protesters gathered in downtown Columbia Sunday blocking intersections and roads like Broadway.

A Black Lives Matter protest started at 2pm at the Boone County Courthouse. Several tents were up for water, medical attention, and food.

Protestors began marching around 2:30pm, as police worked with them to block off several roads, including College Avenue, Providence and Broadway

Columbia police have been walking next to protesters and using patrol vehicles to block off intersections.

Protesters have been marching through downtown Columbia throughout the week. Groups have been blocking off different intersections downtown and in central Columbia.

Around 4pm, the marchers made their way back to the courthouse, listening to more speeches as the protest came to a close.

As of 7:30pm on Sunday, about 20-30 people gathered again at the courthouse to continue protesting.

Protestors walked on the sidewalks Sunday evening, at one point laying in the intersection of Elm and Providence.
