Columbia bars prepare for a flood of Chiefs fans over the weekend
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Chiefs fans already started going to bars around Columbia Friday night to celebrate Super Bowl weekend.
Bars around town said they were preparing for an increase in customers for the game.
James Kanne owns 9th Street Public House downtown. He said Super Bowl weekend is typically one of the quiet weekends for his business, but because a local team is playing he expects this weekend to be much different.
"Usually downtown is kind of quiet but now everybody's so excited that maybe they'll avoid their house parties and maybe come to the bar. And we can be around a bunch of Chiefs fans that like to yell and kind of feel that Chiefs Arrowhead atmosphere," Kanne said.
"The Super Bowl is a very x-factor for downtown, so we'll see how it goes. We really have no idea," he said.
He said watching the game with other people provides a more exciting environment.
He said the bar ordered some extra alcohol in preparation for the expected crowd.
"You know, we bought a couple extra bottles or cases of champagne in case somebody wants to buy a bottle of champagne. Hopefully don't spray it everywhere, but I'd like them to celebrate a possible win," Kanne said.
He said even though he wants people to have fun this weekend, he also wants people to not drink and drive.
