Man charged with parental kidnapping in Callaway County
Authorities arrested a Gasconade County man early Sunday on suspicion that he kidnapped a 6-year-old from the Holts Summit area.
State troopers found the child and the suspect, Rodney Trentmann, 38, during a traffic stop just after midnight Sunday in Gasconade County, the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Troopers took the child into protective custody and Callaway County deputies traveled to Owensville to pick Trentmann up and take him to the Callaway County Jail.
The arrest came after Callaway County deputies were called late Saturday to a home in the 11000 block of Brad Lane near Holts Summit on a report of a burglary and child kidnapping, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies were told a man had entered the home, threatened the people inside and took the 6-year-old, leaving the home in a vehicle.
Holts Summit police and Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers were called in to help, the sheriff’s department said.
Prosecutors charged Trentmann with first-degree burglary, parental kidnapping, first-degree stalking and fourth-degree assault. He was being held Monday in the Callaway County Jail without bond.
