Repairs on Missouri River Bridge near Rocheport continue Monday

The Missouri Department of Transportation continues repairs on the Missouri River Bridge near Rocheport Monday.

One eastbound lane of Interstate 70 will be closed for several days, and speed limits are reduced to 45 mph. The westbound lanes will remain open throughout the project.

MoDOT said motorists should expect congestion, especially during peak driving times.

Drivers are encouraged to take alternate routes around the work zone, including U.S. Routes 50 and 36.

Crews are working on the bridge expansion joints, which allow the bridge to expand and contract.

MoDOT’s Central District Engineer David Silvester said their main concern is safety. “Our top priority is the safety of every person that crosses the bridge,” he said.

Crews are working 24 hours a day until the work is completed.

Work is expected to last until Wednesday. However, the work is weather permitting and the ABC 17 Stormtrack weather team is tracking heavy rainfall for the start of the week.
