Callaway County man accused of following woman into park bathroom
The Fulton Police Department has arrested a man after he allegedly followed a woman into the women’s bathroom and groped her.
According to court documents, police responded to Memorial Park in Fulton around 8:30 Sunday night for a suspicious person. The person who originally called police said Tracey Shelton approached her and her grandchild and tried to engage them in conversation. He allegedly followed them to their car and attempted to give her his belongings.
Police said when they arrived, a woman told them she had just been assaulted. She said a man matching Shelton’s description and smelling like alcohol had tried coaxing her into the men’s bathroom. When she went into the women’s bathroom, Shelton allegedly followed in there and started groping her and trying to kiss her. The victim pushed Shelton off of her and left the bathroom, according to court documents.
About 45 minutes later, police were told Shelton was back in the women’s bathroom at the park. Court documents said officers did find Shelton in there and that he was highly intoxicated and belligerent. Shelton allegedly told police he was not at the park during the initial incident.
Police said there have been previous incidents involving Shelton harassing women. According to court documents, he is reportedly homeless and consistently intoxicated.
