Mild Tuesday, cold air and wintry mix return
TONIGHT: Its a calm but cold night as temperatures drop into the low 20s by morning. We will see passing clouds with easterly winds at 5-8 mph.
TUESDAY: This will be the warmest day in the next 7 days as we reach near 50 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Winds will shift to the southeast up to 8 mph.
EXTENDED: Our next shot at precipitation moves in Wednesday as another cold front moves through. Some morning drizzle and a few light rain showers are possible Wednesday. Freezing drizzle is possible in areas north of HWY 24 early in the morning where temperatures will be just below freezing. After reaching near 40 Wednesday, winds shift to the north, leaving us colder Wednesday night and Thursday. There is a chance of a light wintry mix late Wednesday night into early Thursday as an upper level disturbance passes through. A glaze to a tenth inch of ice is possible from this which could lead to some slick roads for the Thursday morning commute with highest ice amounts south of I-70. We’ll stay in the low to mid 30s Thursday but will warm back to near 40 Friday before arctic air arrives for the first weekend of March. Light rain and snow is possible Friday into Friday night but at this time, little to no snow accumulation is expected. Highs will only reach into the 20s Saturday, dropping into the single digits Saturday night. The arctic air looks like it will hang around through the weekend with a slight snow chance Sunday.
