Human remains found in Callaway County
Callaway County authorities are investigating after a body was found Sunday afternoon west of Fulton.
The Callaway County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that deputies were sent to the 5000 block of County Road 311 off Route F west of Fulton after a person who lives nearby reported finding the remains while walking through a wooded area.
Authorities confirmed the remains were human and a death investigation began, according to the release. A search was conducted Monday and more remains were found, the sheriff’s office said.
Gale Blomenkamp, a member of Missouri Task Force One, said the sheriff’s office requested additional resources. He said they provided two detection dogs and two handlers in order to find further remains Monday.
Task Force One members can assist in searches like this by provided resources, additional staff and even tools like drones.
Blomenkamp said they are utilized for drownings, searches, and even cold cases.
“Unfortunately, we get called out to do these types of searches far too many times,” he said.
The remains were taken to the Boone-Callaway County Medical Examiner’s Office, which will determine a cause and manner of death. Foul play is not suspected based on initial findings, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies during the investigation determined who the remains might belong to but authorities are waiting for identification from the medical examiner’s office, the release said. Deputies have been in contact with people who might be family members of the deceased, the sheriff’s office said.
