State rep proposes expungement of minor pot offenses

The legalization of medical marijuana in Missouri could bring along forgiveness for past minor drug offenders.

State Rep. Ron Hicks, R, Dardenne Prairie, has proposed legislation that would wipe clean the slate of misdemeanor drug offenses.

Hick’s says as laws change in Missouri, so should the way people’s past behavior is judged. He says the measure would not apply to drug dealers or felons, but should stop punishing people for what will soon be legal in Missouri. Hicks says, “I would like to see that if you’re now carrying a medical marijuana card, and you’ve had a misdemeanor in the past and it’s most of the time going to hinder you in life, this bill right here will nullify your past.”

House Bill 341 has a hearing before the House Special Committee on Criminal Justice at the Capitol at 8 Thursday morning.
