Snow Thursday morning followed by sub-freezing temperatures
TONIGHT: Clouds begin to move back into the area tonight bringing with it the return of light snow into the region. Initially any precipitation will start off as light rain and gradually transition into snow by Thursday morning. With light precipitation overnight, little to no accumulation is expected through the night, with a better chance for snow arriving after 6 AM where areas will see a better chance for accumulation. Low temperatures will drop to near 32 degrees by morning.
THURSDAY: Minor snow accumulation is possible with anywhere from a dusting to an inch and a half with most on grassy surfaces due to temperatures near or just above freezing. Some slick roads are possible especially along and north of I-70 where temperatures will stay close to freezing. Highs will reach the mid 30s south of I-70 in the afternoon with a mix of rain and snow, changing to snow and ending. Northerly winds near 10 mph will usher in colder air with temperatures in the upper 20s by 6 PM.
EXTENDED: As skies clear, temperatures will fall into the mid to upper teens Thursday night into early Friday morning, giving us a bitter start to the day. With partial sunshine, we’ll still only make it to 30 degrees Friday afternoon and Saturday. A southern storm system will bring a chance of snow south of Hwy 50 Saturday night into early Sunday morning. Only minor accumulation is expected north of I-44 but those traveling south Saturday should be aware of wintry weather with several inches of snow possible. Past Sunday, we’ll start warming up with high temperatures above freezing by Monday and in the low to mid 40s Tuesday and Wednesday, closer to our 30 year averages. Unsettled weather returns for the second half of next week with rain possible by Wednesday night. Stay with ABC 17 News as we continue to track the latest details on the changing conditions.
