Columbia Chamber of Commerce focuses on transparent city government for 2019 local priorities
The Columbia Chamber of Commerce revealed its local priorities for 2019 Wednesday morning, which included a few issues that have been a hot topic during city council meetings within the past year.
Two of the priorities involve the city’s budget and transparency and efficiency at city council meetings.
Listed below are the Columbia Chamber’s local priorities for 2019:
Encourage Columbia City Council to align the city’s budget with citizen-identified priorities through the City of Columbia’s Citizen Survey and its Strategic Plan. Convene interested parties to develop a comprehensive plan for public safety. Continue to advance efforts to complete the Columbia Regional Airport terminal project. Continue to work with the Columbia City Council to support the outcome of ballot measures as proposed and approved by the voters. Support policies that encourage local private development of workforce and affordable housing. Advocate to make Columbia City Council meetings more efficient, so to be transparent with the citizens of Columbia and to promote opportunity for involvement by all in the community.
All but one item is different from the year before: advocating to make council meetings more efficient.
The chamber will also recognize local leaders at the event.
