Greitens out of governor’s office, but still in legal trouble
Eric Greitens is no longer residing in the governor’s mansion, but he is plagued by a House investigation and Cole County lawsuit.
On the same day Greitens resigned as Missouri’s chief executive, his office followed Cole County Circuit Judge Jon Beetem’s order to turn over all the names and numbers of staff members that used the Confide app.
In December, a member of the Sunshine Project filed a lawsuit against Greitens’ office alleging the use of the app destroyed public records.
The House committee investigating allegations of campaign finance crimes by Greitens may continue their inquiry, despite the change in office. The committee subpoenaed Greitens in May, ordering him to appear for questioning on June 4.
As part of that investigation, the committee also ordered two pro-Greitens groups to turn over documents relating their spending on advertising during the governor’s race.
However, it is possible the groups won’t need to produce the documents after this week. The judge said on Friday that “due to the extraordinary events of this week,” he will consider the groups’ lawyer’s request to reconsider the order.
A final judgment on whether or not the documents will have to be produced is expected next week.
