Kroger updates policy on firearm sales
Kroger released a policy update on their firearm sales on Thursday morning.
A spokesperson for the company said, “In response to the tragic evens in Parkland and elsewhere, we’ve taken a hard look at our policies and procedures for firearm sales.”
Kroger does a vigilant background check process for the sale of sporting-related firearms at the Fred Meyer stores. Firearms are only sold by designated associates that have gone through training and federal background checks.
The spokesperson said, “We are raising the minimum age to 21 to purchase firearms and ammunition in all of our Fred Meyer locations that sell firearms. We stopped selling assault-style rifles in our Oregon, Washington and Idaho Fred Meyer stores several years ago.”
The company will also no longer accept any special-orders of the assault-style rifles in Alaska.
The statement ends with “We believe these are common sense steps we can take immediately that are in line with our values and our vision.”
