Columbia Police Officers Association proposes new agreement with city

The Columbia City Council will conduct a first read of the proposed agreement between the city and the Columbia Police Officers Association(CPOA) at the City Council meeting on Tuesday.

The agreement outlines the relationship between the city and the union group. Notable changes will apply to city ordinances, which means that if the agreement is approved then it will have an effect on other departments like the Columbia Fire Department.

Notable parts of the agreement concern how to conduct necessary layoffs, overtime pay, and more. The document clarifies that layoffs should be done by seniority, with the newest officers being the first to go and the the veteran officer being the first to return.

The CPOA declined to comment on the agreement on Monday.
