Suspect in the shooting of a police officer moved to Missouri after serving criminal sentence
UPDATE 8/11: McCarthy pled not guilty in his hearing for murder and armed criminal action. He appeared by video to the Henry County Court.
ORIGINAL STORY: Ian McCarthy, the suspect in custody for the murder of Officer Gary Michael, moved to Clinton in 2013. He finished serving his sentence for committing first-degree assault in 2011, and pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in 2013.
A jury in New Hampshire found McCarthy guilty of assault in 2002. He served over three years in prison and then returned due to a parole violation.
According to employees of the owner of McCarthy’s home, he left behind a lot of trash before making a run from law enforcement. They found massive amounts of trash, assorted ammunition, targets, and cockroaches, as well as cat and dog feces.
His neighbors took in the two dogs McCarthy owned, and they said he took care of stray cats around the neighborhood.
