Multiple crashes on I-70 in Boone County for start of holiday weekend
Emergency crews responded to four different crashes within just a few hours Friday as people hit the road for the Fourth of July holiday.
The first crash happened around 2:30 p.m. near the Missouri River Bridge in Rocheport. Witnesses said the car went off the road, hit the guardrail and flipped. Officials with the Boone County Fire Protection District said the car caught on fire, but was quickly put out.
The driver was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. One lane of I-70 east was shut down while crews cleared the scene.
A minor crash at the Highway 63 connector and Conley Road caused some congestion around 3:15 p.m.
Emergency responders were called to another crash on I-70 east just past the connector around 4:30 p.m. A Missouri Department of Transportation traffic camera showed one lane shut down and traffic backing up.
Surprisingly, no one was hurt after a crash involving at least three cars on the interstate near the Providence Road exit that happened just after 5 p.m.
A woman involved in the crash told ABC 17 News her car was hit by a truck, which caused another car to rear-end her car, sending it spinning into the median.
Traffic was backed up to at least the Stadium Bouleavrd exit while crews cleared the scene.
Less than two hours later, another crash happened in nearly the same spot on I-70 east near the Providence Road exit, causing traffic to back up once again.
