Flooded Boone County roads reopen, public works monitors for more flooding

As of Wednesday evening, only one road remained closed in Boone County for flooding. Easley River Road at Cooper’s Landing Campgrounds was closed Monday afternoon after a weekend of heavy rain.

Greg Edington, director of Boone County Public Works, said road crews were busy clearing out pipes and ditches earlier in the week. He said crews will likely continue cleanup work through the end of the week.

Edington said he’s not expecting as much flooding Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Crews are on standby if roads do flood and need to be shut down.

The flooded roadways caused some Columbia Public School buses to be rerouted on Monday, said Michelle Baumstark, a CPS spokesperson. She said the district’s transportation coordinator is monitoring the road conditions for Thursday.

Hallsville School District spokesperson Marci Minor said the district hasn’t had any transportation issues to flooding this week. She said district officials are also monitoring the weather and road conditions.
