BHS assistant wrestling coach dies from injury after fall

A Columbia man passed away after a fall at 23 years old.

According to the Columbia Police Department, an officer saw a verbal disturbance between two men at Hitt and Broadway. The officer approached the men, and one of the males walked up to the officer while the other ran away.

B.J. Toal was identified as the one that ran away from the officer, and was found in the alley near 8 Hitt Street with a cut to his head from falling down.

Toal eventually passed away from his injuries.

Columbia Public Schools have confirmed that Toal was the assistant wrestling coach at Battle High School.
