Man pleads guilty to amended charge in Demaret Drive shooting

James Hanton pled guilty to an amended charge of unlawful possession of a weapon on Monday. Boone County deputies suspected Hanton in a shooting July 21 on Demaret Drive. Hanton will be sentenced on March 6.

Prosecutors are recommending a two year prison sentence out of a maximum of seven. He was originally charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

Judge Kevin Crane also gave Hanton a bond reduction due to the reduced charge. It’s now $10,000 cash or surety, reduced from $100,000 cash only.
