Judge grants temporary restraining order over proposed hog farm

The dispute over a proposed hog farm in Callaway County continued Thursday after a judge ruled in favor of a non-profit group.

ABC 17 News has long-reported on the proposed farm that first drew criticism from some Callaway County residents more than two years ago.

Earlier this week, the Missouri Clean Water Commission approved the farm, but non-profit group, Friends of Responsible Agriculture, or FoRAG, claimed the vote was not legal.

The permit for Callaway Farrowing was approved with a 3-2 vote, but FoRAG said the commission needed four votes to legally pass.

In July, ABC 17 News reported a judge ruled two commissioners could not participate in the vote because they drove by the proposed site without telling the public.

Thursday, a judge granted a temporary restraining order that stops Callaway Farrowing from any construction at the proposed location for the farm.

A hearing on the issue is set to be held in November.
