City orders hookah bar owners to stop hosting events

The owners of Golden Smoke Hookah Lounge in Jefferson City were ordered to stop hosting events where tobacco is consumed.

A letter sent by the city to Corey Hykes pointed out multiple code violations and the city argued that the establishment was not living up to its classification.

“Be advised that converting the use of the lounge to a location for private events is inconsistent with the license classification ordered by the city,” the letter said.

It goes on to advise Hykes only to allow 15 people in the shop at one time including employees.

ABC 17 News contacted Hykes who, as of Friday afternoon, said he had only heard about the letter. Jefferson City officials would not comment further.
