Motorcyclist dies after driver allegedly fails to yield in Columbia

Police say a motorcyclist is dead after another vehicle pulled in front of him in east Columbia Friday.

It happened around 12:15 Friday afternoon on Stadium Boulevard at Highway 63.

Police say 19-year-old Abilene Gatson failed to yield to 22-year-old Tyler Romakerwhile she was making a left turn onto northbound Highway 63 from Stadium.

Romaker was driving a motorcycle and suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash. Police say he was taken to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say Romaker was wearing a helmet. They say Gatson was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
