Jefferson City fire damages home and kills two pets

A Jefferson City home sustained more than $130,000 in damage after a fire early Thursday morning.

It happened around 1:00am in the 400 block of Meier Drive.

Fire officials reported that a vehicle driving through the area at the time noticed the home was on fire. That’s when they alerted the people inside and called 911.

All three people inside the home at the time were able to escape with no injuries, but their two pets did not make it.

Firefighters say they were able to get the flames under control in about 20 minutes.

Jefferson City Police assisted with the fire, and investigators are now working to determine what caused it.
