Increasing storms late Friday
You might want to pack the rain poncho if you plan on watching high school football Friday evening but the chance of getting rained on is low. During the day Friday, a few spot storms could develop as temperatures climb into the upper 80s in the afternoon but these storms will be very hit and miss. As we head into evening, most areas will be dry but a few storms could pop up toward 9 PM especially west of HWY 63 as a cold front approaches from the northwest. This front is forecast to be in northwestern Missouri by 7 PM with storms developing ahead of it.
Storms will increase after 9 PM in western Missouri, becoming more likely by midnight as they track to the east overnight. Instability decreases through the night but there will still be some modest wind shear and plenty of moisture which could cause a few storms to produce strong, damaging winds as they move into our western counties. This is where there is a marginal severe threat Friday night. As the night goes on, the severe threat will decrease.
The cold front slowly moves southeast through Saturday morning, keeping scattered showers going early in the day. These will end through the afternoon as the front moves out of our area by late afternoon Saturday.
Most areas will see a quarter to a half inch of rain but where there are stronger storms, up to an inch of rain is possible, mainly west of HWY 63.
