Car thefts still on the rise, Jefferson City Police say
Jefferson City Police continue to monitor an increasing number of thefts from unlocked cars.
The agency said more than 75 such thefts have been reported since the beginning of April.
Capt. Doug Shoemaker said two firearms were taken Monday night out of unlocked vehicles.
According to police, there are a few steps to take to prevent this growing trend, the first of which is to lock a car whenever it is not occupied.
The agency said it’s also a good idea not to keep firearms in a vehicle overnight and to keep all valuables out of sight when they are stored in the vehicle.
The agency also suggests getting to know neighbors and becoming familiar with local neighborhood watch groups.
