Driver, child hurt in crash on Hwy. 40 blocking Midway Elementary

A two-vehicle crash was blocking access to a school just west of Columbia Wednesday morning.

It happened on Highway 40 near Midway Heights Elementary around 7:45 a.m.The crash also blocked one westbound lane.

Boone County Emergency Management sent an alert about the crash. Crews at the scene told ABC 17 News said a woman driving the silver car that went into a ditch was taken to University Hospital with minor injuries. They also report a 7 year-old girl in the van cut her lip and tongue. She was not taken away in an ambulance.

At least eight units responded. ABC 17 News will continue checking with the Missouri State Highway Patrol to find out what caused the wreck.
