Corrections officers attacked at Boone County jail

An inmate at the Boone County Jail faces several charges following an attack on corrections officers Monday night.

According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Department, Glen Lewis was causing trouble in his cell shortly before 8 p.m., and fought with jail officials as they tried to remove him from his cell. One official tried to use a taser on Lewis, but it was ineffective.

During the struggle which followed, Lewis apparently punched several officers, spit on another, and hit a female corrections officer in the head with a food tray. Court documents indicate the tray was about two inches thick and weighed around five pounds. The impact caused several broken bones in the woman’s face and a three to four-inch cut on her head. The officer further said Lewis bit her finger during the fight, and was worried Lewis would bit the finger off. She was taken to an emergency room, and has been released.

Lewis has been in jail since his arrest for allegedly robbing two women at knifepoint at Broadway Christian Church in October 2015. This latest incident could lead to more charges against him, including assault, armed criminal action, and endangering a corrections employee.
