City wins lawsuit against owner of decrepit homes

A Cole County judge ruled in favor of the city of Jefferson in its case against a downtown property owner.

The city filed a lawsuit against Barbara Buescher more than a year ago after multiple properties in the neighborhood of East Capitol Avenue were found to be in violation of city code.

Judge Pat Joyce ordered Buescher to pay the city $24,785 with 9 percent annual interest to settle the debt for services rendered by the city to maintain the safety of the property.
