Furnishing begins at new apartments for veterans

A new housing complex for veterans has started getting some new furnishings. On Wednesday, employees with Veterans United helped move furniture into Patriot Place on Business Loop 70 in Columbia.

Patriot Place sits on the land once occupied by the Deluxe Inn Motel, just east of Old Highway 63. It provides 25 one-bedroom apartments for veterans needing a place to stay.

Three organizations were behind its development, including the Columbia Housing Authority, Truman Veterans’ Hospital, and Welcome Home Inc. In December 2014, the Veterans United Foundation provided a $1 million gift to help pay for Patriot Place.
