Spring break ins reach new low
COLUMBIA, Mo- The Columbia Police Department released the number of break ins for Spring Break 2016 and they were quite low compared to those of previous years.
There was a total of ten break ins all together. Seven residential, one commercial and two that were either an unattached garage or shed between the days of March 25 to April 5th 2016.
During the Spring Break of 2015 there was 34.
CPD reports that the break ins were not restricted to a particular area of town.
ABC17 contacted the CPD who said that ever since 2011, they have officers that work overtime during extended breaks to ensure safety in the city.
Different student apartment complexes said that they send out emails and texts before breaks reminding students that checking doors, windows, and being mindful of who knows about your whereabouts are just some of the precautions the buildings take.
Cross Creek Village said that they increased patrols, installed extra security bars and will begin putting in peep holes for extra safety.
