Columbia councilman files ethics complaint against rival
Ian Thomas, the 4th Ward councilman in Columbia, has filed an ethics complaint against Daryl Dudley, who is running against Thomas in next month’s election.
In announcing the complaint Monday morning, Thomas’ campaign accused Dudley’s campaign committee of failing “to properly register the committee with the Ethics Commission, to report large contributions in a timely manner, and to report large expenditures for telephone polling made on its behalf.”
Last week, ABC 17 News reported Dudleyfailed to disclose major contributions to his campaign in the time state law dictates. Two donations totaling $60,000 were not reported until a week after receiving them. According to the State’s Ethics Commission, any donation above $5,000 must be reported within 48 hours.
At a debate on March 14, Dudley responded to similar accusations form Thomas by saying he had filed the proper information to the Boone County Clerk office.
Our ABC 17 News crews spoke with the Treasurer for Ian Thomas’ campaign, Richard King. King filed the formal complaint. He said they filed because they realized mistakes were made on Dudley’s end and they want a fair, level playing field for the election.
Our crews also attempted to speak with Dudley about the complaint but he said he wasn’t able to comment while he was working. We also called Dudley but he did not answer.
