Man sentenced to 7 years for deadly Audrain County crash

A Centralia man was sentenced to 7 years Monday after he was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the 2013 death of a 12-year-old Columbia girl.

35-year-old Aaron Wormington was driving with 12-year-old Jade Stafford in the passenger seat on November 23, 2013 when the crash happened on Commerce Road in Mexico.

Wormington tried to pass a slower moving Ford F250 truck that was preparing to turn left.

Wormington crashed into the side of the truck with enough force to separate the truck’s front axle from the truck, and the car continued into the ditch where it overturned.

At the time of the impact, Wormington was driving faster than 75 mph. Stafford died instantly in the crash.

Court records said Wormington and the truck driver had been playing “CB tag” with friends.
