Man dead after overnight car crash in Columbia
A man died Friday morning after a deadly single-car crash in Columbia.
Columbia police tell us it happened at 12:13 a.m. on Rollins Road near Westridge Drive.
Christopher E. Masters, 26, was driving a 1997 Chevy Suburban west on Rollins when his car left the road and dove toward a sidewalk. He then drove the vehicle across both lanes of Rollins, and then the vehicle turned sideways and slid across part of a residential yard.
The car then hit a tree on the driver side. The force ejected Masters from the car. He was not wearing a seat belt.
Officials pronounced Masters dead at the scene. It’s not known yet if drugs or alcohol were involved.
