Hot, dry start to September

Right now we are in a summer weather pattern as high pressure aloft is building over the Central States sending the main storm track north of Missouri. This pattern will persist through Sunday, giving us above average temperatures and mainly dry weather.

As we head into the middle of September, forecast models show the high pressure aloft shifting to the west allowing the jet stream to dive to the southeast. This will carry cooler and unsettled weather into the central and eastern U.S.

The temperature and precipitation outlook for September 9-15 shows cooler than average temperatures and above average rainfall. A weak cold front will move through around the 8th bringing a few storms and slightly cooler air followed by a stronger storm system around the 12th-13th which will bring a better chance of rain and cool, more fall-like air to the region.
