Suspect accused of killing 2 WDBJ employees shoots himself, dies
According to WDBJ, the man accused of killing a reporter and photographer for the Virginia TV station Wednesday morning has shot himself after encountering law enforcement.
The Associated Press confirmed Wednesday afternoon the shooter has died at an area hospital.
WDBJ’s Alison Parker and Adam Ward were at the Bridgewater Plaza near Smith Mountain Lake when they were attacked.
The suspected shooter was Vester Lee Flanagan. He was a former reporter for WDBJ for about one year, using the on-air name Bryce Williams, according to a former employee. The general manager of the station confirmed he was fired two years ago for unspecified reasons.
Twitter has suspended an account that appeared to be Bryce Williams after graphic videos and tweets from the incident were posted.
Officials say the shooting occurred at the Bedford County-Franklin County line in Moneta at 6:45 Wednesday morning.
