New 911 director for Columbia and Boone Co. resigns

Officials announced on Monday the recently-named 911 director for Columbia and Boone County is resigning after spending less than six months on the job.

Scott Shelton will step down as director of Joint Communications effective immediately.

Boone County Sheriff Dwayne Carey will again serve as interim director. Leaders emphasize despite the quick transition, there will be no gaps in emergency service.

Shelton officially started Friday, February 13. He started his career as an MU officer and then later served as chief of police for the University of Missouri at Kansas City. He later became the police chief at East Carolina University in March 2008.
