Police find drugs, forged checks during search warrant

Columbia Police enlisted the help of the SWAT team along with Vice Narcotics and Organized Crime Detectives to search 806 Oak Lawn Drive.

It’s a home neighbors call a nuisance property.

“When I saw the SWAT team and police officers, I thought, ‘Well, here we go again,'” neighbor Leon Javanovic said.

Authorities found numerous forged checks, bags of heroin ready to be sold, as well as needles inside the home. John Curry, 33, Aaron Stiers, 45, and Derek Cook, 46, were all arrested.

According to court documents, police began investigating the home after Curry was accused of forging 13 checks from one business, totaling nearly $8,000.

Neighbors said they weren’t surprised to see police at the house again.

“They’ve raided that house so many times I can’t even remember how many,” Javanovic said.

But even when the police aren’t there, neighbors said 806 is abuzz with activity.

“There’s always people coming and going, always cars outside, sometimes they’re ripping them apart,” Javanovic explained.

It was certainly abuzz with activity when ABC 17 News crews showed up. Several of the residents came to the door and screamed at our crews to leave, and then one them pulled down his pants and mooned the crew.

That’s all part of the reason why the neighborhood has started a petition to get them kicked out.

“This is a quiet, residential area and we can’t have problems like that,” Javanovic said.

Curry was charged with six counts of forgery, one count of possession of forgering instrumentality, and one count of distribution of a controlled substance. Stiers and Cook were charged with one count of forgery each.
