DOC investigating inmate death at JCCC

The Missouri Department of Corrections is investigating the death of an inmate at the Jefferson City Correctional Center.

37-year-old Daniel Schenk was serving a 10 year sentence until he was pronounced dead over the weekend.

On Tuesday night, department officials said it’s an ongoing investigation and will not comment, except to say an autopsy is scheduled.

The DOC is also not disclosing the circumstances surrounding his death, including where it happened and if it involved any guards, other inmates or weapons.

Schenk was serving a 10 year sentence for first degree tampering, attempt to commit crime of committing violence against offender in DOC and violence to an employee of DOC to an inmate by an inmate.

Schenk has been in the Missouri Department of Corrections since September of 2002.
