March planned in Capital City this weekend

Police in Jefferson City are expecting a large crowd this weekend.

A march is planned around 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. A group will start at the courthouse and march toward the Capitol.

Organizers are asking people to bring flashlights. ABC 17 talked to one of the leaders Friday who said she was talking to a friend about the events in Ferguson, and felt something had to be done.

“We were talking about the Ferguson protests, and just the negativity in the world today. My family was directly impacted by it. My husband works full time for the National Guard, I have three teenage boys, and we just wanted to show our children that there’s more positive in the world.” said Betty Dudenhoeffer, who organized the march.

So far, about 500 people have signed up online. A few roads could be blocked for the event.
