Columbia man faces charges for attacking two women
A Columbia man with a violent history is facing charges for allegedly assaulting two women and violating a restraining order.
Several detectives from the Boone County Sheriff’s Department and Columbia police arrested 27-year-old Damon Poston Jr. for multiple domestic disputes.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Department says they have been handling cases with Poston since August and Columbia police have a number of cases on him as well.
Most recently, he was arrested for two counts of assault, two counts of domestic assault and also violating a restraining order.
In 2012, Poston was charged guilty for burglary and arson. Poston reportedly broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home, set it on fire and took the woman’s car with him.
He was sentenced to prison for five years, but before police arrested him Wednesday, he was out on parole.
Court documents say in August of this year, Poston punched a woman in the head and strangled her.
Then in September, court documents say Poston pushed another woman, his girlfriend at the time, spit on her and her 4-year-old child’s faces. The woman tried to drive away, and Poston kicked her car putting a dent in the vehicle.
A few days later, court documents say he hit the same woman at least 12 times, shoved her into a bathtub and continued hitting her while she was holding her child.
Court documents say the woman got a restraining order against Poston near the end of October. And a few days later, he was charged for violating that order. Police found several phone calls and text messages to the woman after the restraining order.
Tom O’Sullivan, Boone Co. Police Department: “He’s been directed by the courts not to have any contact with that woman. And if you violate it and you make contact with that other person, you’re subject to arrest. And that’s the situation we have here with Mr. Post and he doesn’t seem to understand what an ex parte is or he just chooses to disregard the directions of a judge.”
The Boone County Sheriff’s Department says the woman has had to seek medical treatment more than once because of Poston.
O’Sullivan: “Any man who is going to assault a woman I would consider a danger to the community.”
Poston is currently being held in the Boone County Jail on a $9,000 cash-only bond. We are waiting to hear from the Department of Corrections if Poston’s parole will be revoked.
Poston is set to appear in court on November 26th to answer charges of violating the protection order.
