Pregnant woman gets no help from Social Services
26-year-old Ashley Khors said she has tried to get in contact with someone at the Department of Social Services since June.
Khors said she works two jobs on top of being 6 months pregnant to try and make ends meet, but she said the doctor bills just keep piling up.
“I cry a lot of times because I don’t know what I’m going to do. I’m going to be stuck with all these medical bills and that’s my big thing. I don’t want to have to file bankruptcy,” said Khors.
Khors, who lives in Tipton, claims the Department of Social Services lost her paperwork.
She said DSS told her they needed her to prove she was pregnant.
“They’ve already received my information, but they keep losing paperwork,” Khors said.
She said this has been going on since June and tries to call DSS at least once a day, but can never get any helpful information from the call center.
“They’re very rude and I’ve called to talk to an eligibility specialist and I’ve put in a request about four or five times and nobody ever calls me back. Ever.”
She said the call center tells her if she hasn’t heard back from someone in two to three days that she needs to keep calling.
So, she does every day with no luck.
“By the time I get Medicaid I’m going to have my baby,” said Khors.
She told ABC 17 not only can she not sign herself and unborn baby up for Medicaid, but they have dropped her 21-month-old daughter, too.
She said they want proof of her as well.
ABC 17 was in contact with Social Services Thursday.
However, when ABC 17 informed DSS there would be another story on their department running, they e-mailed back asking for the contact information of the person in the story so they could assist them.
They did not acknowledge any questions from ABC 17.
