Man arrested for 19 driving violations during chase

Boone County deputies arrested a Columbia man Sunday for multiple driving violations while trying to pull him over.

In a news release from the Boone County Sheriff’s Department, deputies tried to stop 25-year-old Sherman Collins just after 7 p.m. near Lake of the Woods Road and St. Charles Road for a “registration violation.” However, Collins kept driving. During the chase, at speeds the release describes as “slow to moderate”, Collins drove through multiple stop signs and illegally passed a driver. He eventually stopped near the intersection of St. Charles Road and Demaret Drive – a half-mile from the start of the pursuit.

Deputies also arrested Sherman for not using his turn signals 11 times during the pursuit. In total, Sherman committed 19 driving violations, including a failure to yield and “careless and imprudent driving.” Deputies also found Collins had a revoked driver’s license.

Adding the charges together, which includes resisting arrest, Collins’ bond is set at $11,405.
