Voters strike down Proposition Epic

Proposition EPIC on the Boone County ballot failed Tuesday and now supporters are worried about what will become of the Central Missouri Events Center, home of the Boone County Fair.

The measure was a one-eighth cent sales tax for six years that would have funded parks and recreational areas like the Events Center.

It was expected to generate between two-to-three million dollars.

Supporters hoped Proposition EPIC would attract larger, more lucrative events to the old fairgrounds and help the Mid-Missouri economy.

Opponents of Proposition EPIC were surprised voters did not approve it, but are happy and think the fairgrounds will remain viable.

A little more than 9,000 people voted for Proposition EPIC. More than 18,000 voted against it.
