Scott Blvd. and Vawter School Rd. intersection set to close Tuesday
Drivers in southwest Columbia have already had to detour from a shut down Scott Boulevard since January while workers raise the bridge over Hinkson Creek.
But starting Tuesday morning at 7 a.m., the Scott Boulevard and Vawter School Road intersection will close until June 17th.
For those three weeks, drivers will have to find alternate routes.
ABC 17 News talked with neighbors in the Thornbrook subdivision to see how this will affect their weekday routine.
Most people said they weren’t sure which routes they were going to take yet. But others said they planned to use Route KK or Route K.
So ABC 17 ‘s Jillian Fertig tested the alternate routes during peak traffic time at 5 p.m.
Fertig used the Thornbrook neighborhood as a starting point and timed how long it took to drive to Nifong Boulevard by taking Route KK. The trip took five and a half minutes.
Using the same starting point, Fertig then timed how long it took taking Route K to Providence Road to Nifong Boulevard. This trip took 11 and a half minutes.
Columbia Public Works said those times could increase when more drivers take those routes during the closure.
Weather permitting, the intersection is set to re-op June 17th at 5 p.m.
