Man taken into custody after standoff near Eugene

Columbia police have identified a suspect in a standoff near Eugene as Scott Peoples, 39, who was charged Wednesday with multiple counts, including kidnapping, sodomy and domestic assault.

The original kidnapping happened in Columbia around 9:45 Wednesday morning.

Columbia Public Safety Joint Communications received a call from a woman who said she had escaped after she was kidnapped and assaulted.

According to the victim, everything started in the 5000 block of Buxton Lane in north Columbia, where police obtained a search warrant.

Peoples was later taken into custody after a standoff in Miller County around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday.

Missouri Highway Patrol Sergeant Paul Reinsch confirmed with ABC 17 News Wednesday afternoon that a man was barricaded in a home near Eugene.

Around 10 a.m. Wednesday, the woman showed up at a gas station in Eugene and told witnesses to call police because she had been assaulted and raped.

Members of the Cole County SWAT team also responded to the scene, along with Miller County deputies and troopers from the Highway Patrol.
