Cold temperatures shutdown school buses for two Mid-Missouri districts
Cold temperatures caused hundreds of Mid-Missouri students to miss all or some of their classes on Friday. Buses for both Sturgeon R-5 and Centralia R-6 districts had problems with diesel fuel gelling up. Centralia was able to get students to school late, but Sturgeon had to cancel school for the rest of the day.
Sturgeon officials said they did not start experiencing problems until they got out on the roads, despite efforts to fight it.
Centralia district leaders said they are not ready to point any fingers, but they already had MFA Oil swap out the old gas for new.
School leaders at both districts tell ABC 17 News they believe warmer weather will help prevent gelling. But until that happens, they will try and fix the problem early, well before they go out on routes.
