Hundreds of Columbia residences without power Sunday afternoon
More than 600 Columbia residences saw their power turned back on Sunday afternoon.
The winter storm of freezing rain and ice was to blame.
Residences in the College Park area were without power through the night.
“I woke up at about 5:30 this morning because it was cold. I immediately checked the temperature and it was 55 degrees,” said Rebecca Calvin.
Calvin grabbed the hats and gloves out to bundle up while her family waited for the power to come back on. They ended up waiting nearly 12 hours.
A tree had fallen on one of the power lines, which was the cause for the outage in the neighborhood.
Columbia Water and Light officials told ABC 17 News that there were several scattered areas without power for a while on Sunday. However, it was all back on by 2 in the afternoon.
On Columbia Water and Light’s website, there is an updated map of where outages are.
