Massey takes unusual path to Columbia College

Patric Massey took an unconventional route to Columbia College.

10 years ago, he played at Aurora College in Colorado until his father came back into his life. He moved to Montana to catch up, eventually taking a job as a store manager at a sporting apparel store.

Massey would spend almost a decade in Montana working in retail until he moved to Arizona to work in insurance. He eventually got back into school, and was able to find a spot at Phoenix College, where he proved to be productive forward.

Bob Burchard’s son, Bret, saw Massey play last year. The younger Burchard works for the Phoenix Suns, and eventually convinced his father to come to Arizona to watch the 6’9 forward.

Massey said he hopes to play overseas after his time with Columbia. If that doesn’t work out, he said he wants to go into graphic design.
