Missouri State Highway Patrol helicopter crashes near Jefferson City
A Missouri State Highway Patrol helicopter crashed during a training flight Saturday.
Around 1 p.m., the aircraft began experiencing engine failure. Two pilots, Michael Hargus and Jeff Noack, conducted an emergency landing approximately one mile southeast of the Jefferson City Memorial Airport.
The pilots were able to set the helicopter down in an open field.
Despite the helicopter sustaining extensive damage, Noack suffered only minor injuries. Hargus was unharmed in the crash.
The Highway Patrol says both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been notified about the incident.
The estimated cost of damage to the 1969 Bell OH-58 helicopter is not yet known.
