Elderly woman injured in Jefferson City car crash
An elderly woman was seriously injured in a car crash in Jefferson City Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency officials say the woman, Judy Veit, 70, of New Bloomfield, crashed her car underneath a 53-foot unattached trailer near Highway 179 and Main Street around 12:40 p.m. The impact of the crash caused the top of the car to be ripped off.
The Jefferson City Police Department says Veit was traveling westbound on W. main Street when she ran off the right side of the road, hit a curb and struck a road sign. The car then crossed the intersection of W. Main St. and Highway 179 before hitting a mailbox then the trailer.
Police say Viet was having a medical condition that may have made her unconscious. According to investigators, she did not remember any details of the crash.
Viet was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries.
